What Is It?
It is a CT scan (X-ray test) performed to look at the heart arteries.
How Is It Done?
It is performed in a radiology practice, where the patient is injected with an X-ray contrast agent while a CT scan of the chest is performed. The images are then analysed with the help of computer reconstruction to assess the heart arteries. Usually the patient is given medications before the test to slow the heart rate.
Why Is It Done?
It is performed to non-invasively determine if there is any coronary artery (heart artery) disease or blockage.
This is a relatively non-invasive test that can assess the presence and severity of heart artery disease.
